It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane!
It’s Brandon’s own Comic and Pop Culture Convention!

Local Brandon group FNC MegaCorp is extremely proud to announce that Brandon will be hosting its first annual comic convention. The convention will be held at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium on Oct.19th & 20th, 2019, and is selecting dates for events in 2020 & 2021.

This family-friendly event is an unprecedented extravaganza for the Brandon & Westman area, featuring celebrity guests, comic creators & artists, cosplayers, and other genre related personas. To keep the excitement levels high, the convention is including a variety of interactive activities such as autograph & photo opportunities, shows, contests, gaming events, and a multitude of other engaging content.

So far four artists have been confirmed: DC and Marvel mainstay Sam De La Rosa, accomplished cover artist Dawn McTeigue, Mike Rooth who is a Canadian artist with over twenty years experience, and Joe Rubenstein who, among other things, was the key creator of the Infinity Gauntlet!

A naming contest for this awesome new event closed May 24th and a name has been chosen! Stay tuned for the release of the new name and more information about vendors, artists and more.

Honoring the Good Road

Brandon First’s staff was delighted to be involved in the Honoring the Good Road Gala. This event ran alongside the Graduation Pow Wow which we were very excited attend as well. These two events took place at the Dome Building and the Keystone Centre Grounds over the course of May 23rd. The graduation ceremony and pow wow celebrated Indigenous graduates of programs from Headstart, through to 8th Grade, High School and Post Secondary education. The Gala honoured community members who live their lives in a way that follows each of the Seven Sacred Teachings, as well as a Youth, Elder/Knowledge Keeper and Ally award. Both the outdoor celebration and the gala were incredibly well attended and an unforgettable experience to be a part of. See the slider below for some highlights, and check out our facebook albums for the full photo galleries of the day!

Stakeholder Corner

Please join us in welcoming our newest member to the Brandon First Stakeholder Member family!

Aida’s Catering provides delicious healthy meals with local fresh ingredients. Aida has shared her culinary expertise with the community by teaching culinary courses at ACC, catering many events throughout the Westman area and even catering to specific diets in nursing homes; the cooking endeavors that brought her the most joy, however, were those done in her own kitchen, crafting unique meals every day for her two children. Since her children have now grown up and moved away, she felt that the natural next step was to share this love of cooking with the community by bringing the best meals from her kitchen table to yours. Visit her website or call 204-725-2792 for more information on her incredible menu!

Brandon First Sponsors State of the City Luncheon

Once again this year, Brandon First was thrilled to sponsor the May Chamber of Commerce Luncheon, and share the stage with Mayor Rick Chrest as he delivered his annual State of the City address. Our Executive Director, Graham Harvey, gave an update on Brandon First’s productive last year, and also talked about the city’s new tourism place brand, “Brandon Brings You Back”. We hope everyone has been practicing with and enjoying their place branded boomerangs, our fun little way of reminding you that this city really does Bring You Back, and we look forward to sponsoring and seeing you all again next year!
